Resources for driving testers

As a driver tester, you have a vital role to play in road safety – it is you who ultimately decides whether or not a learner driver has reached a sufficient standard to merit the awarding of a full driving licence.

The RSA produces a range of documentation in support of the driving instruction and testing industry. This includes Driving Fault Marking Guidelines, a publication designed to help testers decide when and where a particular driving fault should be recorded on the report sheet.

It also incorporates an assessment section which gives guidelines on how seriously a particular fault should be rated, where Grade 1 is ‘minor’, grade 2 is ‘serious or more serious’ and grade 3 is ‘dangerous or potentially dangerous’.

Other information booklets of interest to testers and test candidates include:

Taking a driving test can be an intimidating experience – but knowing what to expect on the day will lessen a candidate’s anxiety and prepare them mentally for the challenge.

Some test candidates arrive at the test centre but don’t actually get to sit their test because their vehicle is not up to standard. This booklet outlines what vehicle standards are required.
