Make a Complaint about an Operator/Driver

What to do if you are aware of operators or drivers who may be acting illegally.

How do you make a complaint?

You can make a complaint in any of the following ways:

  • Online - fill out our Complaint form online
  • In Person – Call into our office, Clonfert House, Bride Street, Loughrea, Co Galway.  Where you can speak to one of our staff in the strictest confidence
  • In Writing – Post your complaint to Road Safety Authority, Clonfert House, Bride Street, Loughrea, Co Galway
  • By email – Complete a complaint form (DOC) and submit to
  • By  fax – You can fax complaint form (DOC) to 091 872660
  • By phone – You can speak to one of our staff on 091 872600 (enforcement section) or lo-call on 1890 253 163.

Please note in all instances you will be asked for specific details concerning:

  • Nature of the complaint
  • Vehicle registration numbers
  • Operators name and address
  • Time and place of the alleged breach
  • If you can supply specific detailed information this will be helpful in ensuring that a comprehensive investigation can be carried out.
  • We would ask that you supply us with your name and contact details, to enable us follow up and request further information if necessary. Your details will not be disclosed.

You can be assured that all complaints will be treated seriously and in the strictest confidence.

How is your complaint dealt with?

Once a complaint is received by the RSA office it will be logged and assigned to a Transport Officer who will fully investigate each complaint in an efficient and professional manner.

This may include:

  • Examining our databases to establish if the vehicle or person concerned is a licensed operator
  • Notifying the operator about the legal requirement for a licence
  • Seek tachograph records for each vehicle owned by the operator
  • Supplying details of the complaint to An Garda Siochana
  • Examining whether or not prosecution is warranted and preparation of the necessary  evidence for court

All complaints, the investigation that follows, and final outcomes will be kept on record by the RSA.

It is not the practice of the RSA to respond to individual complaints, however general information on the outcome of investigations will be published in the Authority’s Annual Report.

With the aid of your information, Euro Contrôle Route is drawing up an inventory of these pressure points and passing this information on to the countries.
