N1 Vehicles designed and constructed for the carriage of goods and having a maximum mass not exceeding 3.5 tonnes. E.g. Light vans and trucks.

ECWVTA and related national approval schemes applies to incomplete and complete vehicles from 29th October 2011 and for completed vehicles from 29th April 2013. Until then SI 448 of 2007 as amended by SI 195 of 2008 will apply. Valid certificates of conformity must be available for first registration

N2 Vehicles designed and constructed for the carriage of goods and having a maximum mass between 3.5 tonnes and 12 tonnes e.g. Mid size vans and trucks  ECWVTA and related national approval schemes applies to incomplete and complete vehicles from 29th October 2012 and for completed vehicles from 29th October 2014. Until then SI 448 of 2007 as amended by SI 195 of 2008 will apply. Valid certificates of conformity must be available for first registration.

N3 Vehicles designed and constructed for the carriage of goods and having a maximum mass exceeding 12 tonne. E.g. Heavy vans and trucks.
