RSA Issue Road Safety Appeal To Sports Fans
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is today, Friday 29th July, appealing to sports fans travelling to the GAA championship matches and Supercup to take care on the roads this weekend.
Mr. Noel Brett, CEO, Road Safety Authority said “Fans will be travelling to Croke Park and the Aviva stadium from all over Ireland, many by road, to attend the games. We want everyone to enjoy themselves and don’t want to see the trip turn into a tragedy. Our message is simple, allow plenty of time to get to the game, plan your journey, slow down, never drink and drive and wear seatbelts in the front and back.”
“As this weekend is also a bank holiday weekend, the roads will be extra busy so allow plenty time to get to get to the games. Some will be finishing quite late, with many fans facing a long drive home. If you are fighting tiredness behind the wheel, pull over in a safe place off the road, drink a cup or two of coffee or a high energy drink with caffeine and take a 15 minute nap. Afterwards get some fresh air and you should be ok to drive for another hour or two.”
