Vintage Vehicles

A vehicle becomes vintage 30 years after the date of first registration.

A vehicle becomes vintage 30 years after the date of first registration e.g. a vehicle registered 10 September 1988 became vintage on 10 September 2018. It is excluded from NCT due to the low volume of these vehicles in service combined with their inability to meet with the technical requirements o fthe test e.g. glazing, emissions etc. A vintage truck used solely for non-commercial purposes does not require roadworthiness testing. However, if you are an owner of a vintage vehicle you are still obliged under road traffic legislation to ensure that it is maintained in good condition and does not pose a risk to other road users. Vintage vehicles used solely for non-commercial purposes do not require roadworthiness testing.
