NCT and the Driving Test

NCT 01.02.2020

It is a requirement for the driving test that where a vehicle is subject to the NCT, the NCT disc is displayed at the driving test. Otherwise the driving test can’t be conducted. The NCT service is currently experiencing issues which means that it is not possible to complete the NCT test at many of its test centres.

The NCT service has some limited capacity at various centres around the country. We are working with the NCT service to assist customers where possible. If your driving test is due and you require an NCT please contact the RSA Customer Care Centre on 1890 40 60 40 to check availability for a priority NCT. You will need to have your driver number and the registration number of the vehicle you plan to use for the driving test to hand.

Of course, a learner may make arrangements to source another vehicle (for example an Approved Driving Instructor’s vehicle) for the test, once they are insured to drive the vehicle.  Otherwise, a learner driver due to take a driving test in a car that does not have a valid NCT can opt to cancel the driving test and such tests will be rescheduled free of charge. We apologise to driving test customers for the inconvenience caused.
