Statement Regarding Tyre Safety Demo Aired on RTE TV News
The RSA recently participated in an event organised by the Irish Tyres Industry Association (ITIA) to demonstrate the stopping distances of vehicles with safe and un-safe tyres.
The RSA would like to clarify that it had no role in the selection of the venue, cars or tyres for the demonstration.
We were very disappointed to discover that the ABS in the silver car with the un-safe tyres was deactivated.
The RSA would like to categorically state that it was not aware of this fact. Furthermore had the RSA known this was the case, it would not have participated in the demonstration.
Clearly the results of the demonstration may have been affected by this fact.
To address any confusion this may cause, anyone seeking clarification on stopping distances can view the Official Stopping Distances on the RSA’s Rules of the Road website.
Our soul aim was to ensure that Irish motorists had knowledge of the need to check their tyres and to be aware of the risks posed for them, their passengers and other road users from defective tyres.
We appeal to all drivers to check their tyres and to ensure that they take action to remedy any defective tyres
