Calls for participation

How you can help us inform and improve road safety research and policy.

We often carry out research and public consultations to seek the opinion of a wide range of people on our future road safety proposals.

Your attitudes and opinions are gathered through public consultations, online surveys and other calls to participate in research studies to contribute to our understanding of important road safety issues.

Industry consultation questionnaire on the proposed changes to the Vehicle Type Approval recast framework to cater for the new General Safety Regulation

The new General Safety Regulation (EU 2019/2144) introduces new type-approval laws for cars, buses, vans, trucks and trailers. This aims to significantly reduce deaths and serious injuries on European roads by introducing state-of-the-art safety technologies as standard vehicle equipment.

We are proposing to amend S.I. No. 556/2020 – European Union (Road Vehicles: Type-Approval and Market Surveillance) Regulations 2020, to cater for this new General Safety Regulation in the national small series type-approval and national individual vehicle approval schemes.

We welcome feedback from vehicle manufacturers, industry stakeholders and interested parties. To participate please complete the relevant section within the Industry consultation on proposed type approval changes

You may also wish to provide feedback on the proposed alternative requirements for National Small Series Type-Approval (NSSTA) and National Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) in the Industry consultation on proposed type-approval changes - spreadsheet

This contains a link to an accompanying spreadsheet. Completed submissions should be emailed to: [email protected] by close of business on 06 February 2023 with ‘Type Approval Consultation’ as the subject line, and please make sure to include your contact details.

Road safety: Call for expressions of interest - Workshops on driving licences directive

The European Commission is preparing a revision of the current Directive on driving licences with the aim of improving road safety and facilitating free movement.

The Commission is today opening a call for expressions of interest to participate in a series of workshops on EU rules regarding driving licenses. These three workshops aim to collect stakeholders’ views for the purpose of preparing a possible revision of the Directive on driving licences. Each workshop will tackle a specific element of the EU driving license rules: 1: training, testing and vehicle categories; 2: issuance and mutual recognition of driving licenses; and 3: driving disqualifications and fitness to drive.
