Current driving test booking restrictions

Latest guidance on booking restrictions and appointment slot availability.

Appointment slots are limited to those who have been invited to book a test

If you are already on the driving test waiting list, please do not log in to check for availability. Appointment slots are limited to those who have been invited to book a driving test and we will contact you directly when appointments become available.

If you have received an invitation to book a test, need to cancel a test, or wish to join the waiting list, please go ahead and sign up or log in to MyRoadSafety.ie.

Essential workers

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we can only offer driving test appointments to essential workers at this time and test appointments are solely by invitation.

If you are an essential worker who has already applied for a driving test and need it urgently, please complete this  form.

If you are not an essential worker and have an upcoming appointment scheduled, please cancel your test. You can do this by logging in to MyRoadSafety.ie and selecting 'My Bookings' and 'Cancel Test'. Don't worry, you won't lose your fee. It will be saved as a service credit for you to book a future test. Please allow a few days for this to process.

We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time. You can find the current definition of ‘essential workers’ and list of relevant services on the gov.ie website. Essential workers do not include administrative and other support for such businesses and services unless specified in section 13 and the physical presence of a worker is required.

What is an essential worker?

You can find the current definition of ‘essential workers’ and list of relevant services on the gov.ie website. Essential workers do not include administrative and other support for such businesses and services unless specified in section 13 and the physical presence of a worker is required.

Can I join the waiting list until test slots are made available again to everybody?

Due to extremely high volumes of traffic on the MyRoadSafety.ie customer portal, we need to ensure that we prioritise access to customers who have received an invitation to book a test. If you are a non-essential worker and wish to add yourself to a waiting list for slots that will become available when government restrictions ease, please do so at low-peak times only.  We thank you for your understanding and co-operation at this time.

I’m on the waiting list. When will I get an appointment?

Once you have joined a waiting list, there is no need for you to log back in to MyRoadSafety to check for availability. Appointment slots are limited to those who have been invited to book a driving test and we will contact you directly when appointments become available. At that point, you will be asked to log in and choose your appointment date and time. Slots will be offered on a first come first served basis. Should your circumstances change and you become an essential worker after you already joined a waiting list, please complete the urgent test form at that time.

I already have a test booking but I am not an essential worker. Can I still take my test?

No. You may be asked to provide evidence of being an essential worker on the day of your test and may not be allowed to take it otherwise. If you have an upcoming driving test booking but are not an essential worker, then we ask you to please cancel this booking as soon as possible. Don’t worry, you won’t lose your fee. It will be saved as a service credit for you and this can be used to book a future test. Please allow a few days for this to process after you have cancelled.

How do I cancel my test?

You can cancel your test on MyRoadSafety.ie in the ‘My Bookings’ section. Please select cancel and do not reschedule yourself until restrictions have been lifted. If you are cancelling due to Covid symptoms or because you are not an essential worker, don’t worry, you will not lose your fee. Instead, we will save a service credit for you and you will be able to use this to book a future test. Please allow a few days for this to process after cancelling.

Can I book a test over the phone or by email?

No. We are unable to schedule tests over the phone or by email request. To apply for a test and add yourself to the waiting list, please sign up or log in to MyRoadSafety. If it’s your first time registering, you will need to select your vehicle category under ‘My Goals’ before you can proceed to book a test. We will contact you when new driving test slots become available and at that point, you will be invited to log and select your appointment.
