Renewing your Driver CPC card

How and where to renew your Driver CPC card.

All professional drivers are required by law to hold a valid Driver CPC card.  Driver CPC stands for Driver Certificate of Professional Competence.


Driver CPC card renewals

To renew your Driver CPC card you must:

You must carry your Driver CPC card with you at all times while driving a bus or truck professionally, otherwise you may be fined if you are stopped by an RSA Transport Officer or An Garda Síochána.

Return to professional driving

If you plan to return to professional driving, you can apply for your driver CPC card by:

  • Completing the periodic training
  • Submitting your Return to Professional Driving Declaration form and the Driver Qualification Card Application form:

Frequently asked questions

Once you’ve completed your periodic training in the previous 12 months, you will be issued with your new Driver CPC card about three weeks before your current card expires . You can find the expiry date on the front of your current Driver CPC card. 



You still won’t get your new Driver CPC card until nearer the time your current card expires.
Your Driver CPC card will be sent to the address listed in your MyCPC portal account. 
No. The Driver CPC card does not have your address on it, so you don’t have to get a new one if your address changes. However, you must update your contact details in your  MyCPC portal account
No. You cannot drive professionally until you get your Driver CPC card. 
You should contact us at [email protected] if your CPC periodic training records are complete on the MyCPC portal but you haven’t received your new Driver CPC card before the current card has expired.
