Christmas appeal to parents
Road Users 01.12.2025Consider what you gift a child this Christmas
This Christmas, we are asking people to think carefully about what they buy for children under the age of 16. Children’s Health Ireland has reported a concerning increase in serious injuries involving e-scooters among young people. In that context, gifts like e-scooters, quads bikes and scramblers are powerful machines, and when something goes wrong the consequences can be devastating for a child and everyone who loves them.

Developed with Dr Gill who is a Consultant in Neurodisability for CHI at Temple Street in Ireland, the campaign is copy led and rooted in real experience from the hospital. Each execution is written in the voice of an imaginary child who has been injured after falling from an e-scooter, quad bike or scrambler. Their words sit alongside simple imagery of these vehicles across outdoor, digital and social formats, creating a direct, human connection that cuts through the noise of Christmas.

The message is a gentle but honest one: before you buy a powered vehicle for a child, pause and think about whether it is legal, safe, and appropriate for them. A gift should bring joy, not risk a child’s future.
