RSA Supports Safer Journeys at Summer Festivals

10.06.2026

This summer, the Road Safety Authority is taking its safety campaign on the road with a presence at some of Ireland’s most popular festivals, including:

  • Galway Racing Festival, taking place from Monday 27 July to Sunday 2 August 2026 at Curraghmore Estate in Co. Waterford.
  • All Together Now, taking place from Thursday 30 July to Sunday 2 August 2026 at Ballybrit, Co. Galway.
  • Electric Picnic taking place from Friday 28 August to Sunday 30 August 2026, at Stradbally Hall in County Laois

The aim is simple: to encourage everyone attending to enjoy themselves while also making safe and responsible choices, particularly when it comes to travelling home.

Bringing Safety into the Festival Experience

Festivals are a time to relax and have fun. But once the music stops, the journey home is just as important. At all these events, the RSA will be on-site to remind people about two key messages:

  • Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Always wear a seatbelt

One of the main features of the RSA’s presence at the festivals will be the FlineBox, a self-service breathalyser unit available on-site.

These devices, powered by Dräger sensor technology (the same technology used by Gardaí), allow you to test your alcohol level. The screen will let you know if you are under or over the legal limit, and if alcohol is still in your system, it will provide an estimated wait time before you test again, or you make the decision that it would be safe to drive.

It’s clear, practical information to help people decide when it’s safe to get behind the wheel.

A Few Helpful Reminders

If you’re heading to the festival this year, here are a few important things to keep in mind:

  • Use the FlineBox to check your alcohol level before driving.
  • Plan your journey home in advance, whether by designated driver, public transport, or taxi.
  • Always wear your seatbelt, even on short trips.
  • Encourage friends and family to make safe choices too.
