An off-road or on-road driving assessment (ORDA) is a test to determine your fitness to drive and may be requested by your doctor or a specialist in line with our Medical Fitness to Drive Guidelines.
If you’re required to undergo an ORDA, you will have to arrange this yourself. Your doctor may be able to recommend a local operator that carries out such assessments.
When a temporary learner permit is needed
If you have previously held a driving licence but it has expired and you are required to do an on-road assessment, you may apply to the RSA for a temporary learner permit to facilitate the ORDA. This permit is for the purpose of undertaking the assessment only and is limited to two months.
As this is a learner permit, you must be accompanied while driving by someone who has held a full licence for a minimum of two years.
If you require more information about applying for a temporary learner permit please complete the form below and we will contact you directly.
