Irish Road Safety Week 2025
Road Users 06.10.2025Irish Road Safety Week (IRSW) will be taking place from Monday 6 October to Sunday 12 October 2025.
We’re looking for your help with this national drive to save lives, so if there are events happening in your community, get involved and help to save lives on our roads.
We look forward to working with you to help save lives and prevent serious injuries on our roads.
Here are some events taking place during IRSW
Monday 6 October - Tyre Safety Day
The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) members around Ireland are inviting all motorists to call in for a FREE tyre pressure check and tread depth inspection during Irish Road Safety Week. A visit to www.itia.ie will lead motorists to their nearest ITIA registered dealer. Drivers can download a copy of ‘Your Guide to Tyre Safety’ which includes information on buying second-hand tyres.
Friday 10 October - National Child Safety Day:
It provides an opportunity for pre-schoolers to get involved in road safety. Pre-schools pre-ordered Beep Beep packs in early September on the RSA website and the RSA will be distributing these packs, with over 40,000 high visibility vests to pre-schools nationwide, in time for National Child Safety Day.
A Check It Fits event is scheduled to take place at Tony Kealy’s in Coolock (Northside Retail Park, Coolock Dr, Kilmore, Dublin) on Friday, 10 October, as part of Child Safety Day.
Additionally, the RSA Shuttle and Rollover will be visiting a number of schools throughout Irish Road Safety Week.
- RSA Shuttle is in Galway and Sligo during Road Safety Week.
- StreetSmart is in Ratoath, Co. Meath for 4 days.
- The 3rd level educators are in TUS Moylish on 7 October, ATU Connamara on 7 October and NUIG on 9 October.
Check it Fits, the RSA’s free child car seat checking service, will be visiting Offaly (full schedule and locations in the notes to editor) during Irish Road Safety Week. The RSA National Road Safety Education Service will be travelling the length and breadth of the country, delivering road safety education programmes to crèches, schools, universities, workplaces and communities throughout the week.
The RSA Leading Lights in Road Safety Awards are back, and nominations are now open for 2025. Now in its 16th year, the awards recognise and honour the contribution made by individuals, groups and communities in reducing serious injuries and deaths on our roads. If you know about a school, businesses and individual who is committed to making our roads safer, nominate them for a Leading Light award here. Closing date for submissions is Friday 24th October.
Seatbelt Sheriff
Seatbelt Sheriff is planned to be in the locations below and also reporter Regan Kelly from Westmeath Examiner agreed to visit one of the schools in Co. Westmeath to accompany SBS and write an article about the visit.

Other Events across Ireland
Galway
Galway City Council have an event with approximately 100 3/4th class kids at Tirellan NS on the 10 October (Child Safety Day).
On the 9 October Galway City Council having a coffee morning/talk on driving for Older People (approximately 60 expected attendees).

Mayo
Mayo County Council launched Road Safety Week 2025 in Mayo on Thursday 2nd October with a broadcast of the Tommy Marren Breakfast Show live from Áras an Chontae, Castlebar which was dedicated to road safety.
Mayo Co. Council are hosting an event (Drive Safer for Longer) in Breaffy House Hotel on Wednesday, 8th October – this is aimed at the older driver.
Cavan
Cavan County Council, kindly supported by Tractamotors, will carry out a free tyre check service on the 6 October from 10am to 12.30pm at the Courthouse, Farnham Street, Cavan, H12 R6V2. This initiative will help raise awareness of the importance of checking your tyres.
Cork
In County Cork by Cork County Council the following will take place for Road Safety Week.
- Cycle Right Training in Scoil Mhairtin, Kilworth.
- Road Safety Workshops for Primary Schools in Mallow Library.
- Multi Secondary Schools Road Safety Event in Clonakilty.
- Beep Beep Day Pre-School Visits
Donegal
Donegal County Council are hosting the AXA Donegal Roadsafe Roadshow on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th October 2025. This powerful event designed for secondary school students, to educate on the potentially devastating consequences that road traffic collisions can have on their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
The Roadshow features a series of impactful first-hand accounts from An Gardaí Síochána, Donegal County Fire Service, National Ambulance Service, Consultant from Accident & Emergency Department in Letterkenny University Hospital and a personal dimension from people impacted by road traffic collisions. The show is designed to leave a lasting impression on the importance of road safety. (Event is fully booked)
Road safety messages will be promoted throughout the week by Donegal County Council.
Longford
Longford County Council launching Road Safety campaign during Road Safety Week in collaboration with GAA and AGS. New signage carrying message : "Be a team player. Think road safety. A mistake on the field could cost the game; a mistake on the road could cost you your life" is available for all GAA clubs to erect at their club house. The signs emphasise four critical behaviours: phone down, slow down, belt up, and never drink or drug drive.
Information stands and digital messages on VDU screens on Road Safety are organised in Longford County Council buildings and libraries throughout the week.
Kerry
Kerry County Council – Road Safety Week
Friday 3rd October ‘Launch of Road Safety Week in Kerry’
Kerry County Council, An Garda Síochána and Age Friendly Kerry will launch Kerry’s Road Safety Week and unveil a new awareness campaign for Older Drivers at the Older People’s Council Information Day at the Rose Hotel, Tralee, ahead of Road Safety Week, where a new road safety car sticker will be launched, calling on road users to ‘Respect Older Drivers’.
Monday 6th October ‘Your Guide to Tyre Safety’
Kerry County Council will promote ‘Tyre Safety Day’ along with other stakeholders.
Tuesday 7th October ‘Pedestrian Safety’
Kerry County Council and An Garda Síochána will promote Pedestrian Safety and being visible on the road.
Tuesday 7th October ‘Seatbelt Safety’
Road Safety stakeholders in Kerry will promote ‘Seatbelt Safety’ among drivers and passengers.
Wednesday 8th October ‘Winter Ready’
Is your vehicle winter ready? Kerry County Council and Motor Factors will promote ‘Winter Ready’ across the county.
Thursday 9th October ‘Junior Road Safety Officers’
Kerry County Council will launch the ‘Junior Road Safety Officer’ (JRSO) programme in 130 primary schools throughout the Kingdom. A JRSO is ‘appointed’ by the school to promote road safety and liaise with the council’s Road Safety Officer in doing so.
Friday 10th October ‘Save the Date Announcement - Safer Roads Conference 2026’
County Kerry’s Road Safety Together Working Group will announce the date for the 2026 ‘Safer Roads’ road safety conference in County Kerry.
Friday 10th October ‘National Child Safety Day’
Promote Child Car Seats on social media and Seatbelt Sherriff and Hi-Glo Silver to Pre-Schoolers
Saturday 11th October ‘Safe and Leisurely Cycling Video’
Kerry Council and ‘The Chain Gang’ Cycling Club will publish a new video on social media about safe and leisurely cycling around Kerry and to promote the viewpoints from a cyclist and a driver’s perspective.
Sunday 12th October Driver Fatigue - ‘Wake up to the risks’
Westmeath
Westmeath County Council had been working closely with Westmeath GAA, LGFA and Camogie Associations to develop a campaign targeting those aged between 18 and 35, the group most affected by road traffic incidents.
The support of clubs and individuals will help open more conversations about what we can all do, whether we are travelling on foot or on wheels, to help ensure everyone gets to their destination safely.
Clubs are encouraged to post images of the signs, which must be in a prominent location, on social media tagging the County Council, the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association, in a bid to spread the message as widely as possible.
All clubs and individuals who post an image of themselves with their sign in place together with a message of support for the initiative will be entered into a free draw.
