You must be eligible to sit a driving test

To be eligible to sit your driving test you must have held your first learner permit for at least 6 months and completed all of your driver training - that is, Essential Driver Training (EDT) for cars or Initial Basic Training (IBT) for motorbikes.

You can check the validity of your learner permit in your MyRoadSafety account under the learner permit step in ‘My Goals’.

To see the status of your driver training please log in to MyEDT (cars only). All EDT sessions must be uploaded by your instructor before we can send you an invitation to book a test.

Your appointment will be cancelled if you're not eligible

If you have a driving test scheduled but have not yet completed all of your required driver training we will cancel your test 5 days before your appointment date.

Don’t worry, you won’t lose your fee or your place in the queue. You will be kept on our waiting list and re-invited to book a test appointment once all of your completed EDT sessions have been uploaded by your Approved Driving Instructor.

For motorcyclists, you must have completed all required IBT modules and received a certificate of satisfactory completion from your instructor before you can take the test. The IBT certificate must be in date and completed for the correct category of motorcycle for your test.

Please note that our customer service agents cannot manage driving test appointments over the phone or prioritise anyone’s position in the waiting list queue, so we kindly ask you not call for this information. Driving tests should be managed directly through our customer portal MyRoadSafety.ie
