Guidance on each section of the form

Telephone number

Please provide details of contact telephone numbers at which the RSA may contact you. Contact will include group text messages by way of an alert from time to time.

Email address

Please provide a permanent email address that will be used for future ADI correspondence. Changing this during or after the ADI qualification process can lead to missed communications and administration delays.

Personal Public Service Number (PPSN)

If you're an employee, you can find your PPSN on your P60 or certificate of tax credits. If you do not know your PPSN, you can contact your local office of the Department of Social Protection.

Tax Clearance Access Number (TCAN)

Each applicant is required to submit a TCAN issued by the Revenue Commissioners under the provisions of section 1095 of the Taxes Consolidation. This number must be current and valid at the time of your application.

How to apply for a TCAN

If you have been convicted of an offence in the past or if there are ongoing proceedings in relation to an offence against you, you must provide details of this in your ADI application form.

Please include details such as the date of conviction, sentence received and any other information about the ongoing proceedings, where applicable.

Failing to provide details in relation to any current or previous convictions, (even in the distant past) or addresses at which you have lived, may result in your application being delayed or refused.

Your driving licence

Please enter your driver number (located at 4d on your Irish driving licence) in the field provided. Please select either 'Ireland' or 'Other EU' for the country of issue and enter the date of expiry.

To qualify to participate in the three stage examination process you must be the holder of a full driver's licence in the category you wish to give instruction, for a minimum of 2 years at the time of your ADI application.

Licence categories for instruction

Please indicate which categories of driving licence you wish to provide instruction in.

Please note that an ADI must hold a driving licence for the category they wish to instruct in.

You must complete a theory test for each category and a driving test in each group of categories (please refer to the ADI Information Booklet).

The ADI Unit will advise which Stage 2 Driving test(s) need to be carried out depending on the categories of instruction for which you are seeking approval. Information provided in the ADI Information booklet will help you determine what tests will be necessary.

The Instruction ability test may be completed in any of the categories you have applied for.

Irish language

You may request to have your qualifying examinations conducted through the Irish language. If you wish to do so, please indicate which stages you would like conducted through Irish.
