Driving test update

Driving test waiting list

If you are already on the driving test waiting list, please do not log in to MyRoadSafety to check for availability. Appointment slots are limited to those who have been invited to book a driving test and we will contact you directly when appointments become available.

If you have received an invitation to book a test, need to cancel a test, or wish to join the waiting list, please go ahead and sign in to MyRoadSafety now. For anyone else, we kindly ask you to visit another time when our portal is not so busy. Thank you for your patience at this time

We can only offer test appointments to essential workers

If you are an essential worker and haven’t already received a test appointment but need one urgently please complete this online form. We will contact you when appointments become available.

If you are not an essential worker and have an upcoming appointment scheduled, please cancel your test. Otherwise, it won’t go ahead and the slot will be lost. Don’t worry, you won’t lose your fee. It will be saved as a service credit for you to book another test in the future.

Covid-19 safety measures

We have introduced new safety measures to the driving test which candidates must follow. Know more

Weather disruptions

Check if your driving test is affected by adverse weather conditions. Tests will be cancelled if conditions are unsafe.

After you’ve qualified

After you’ve passed all 4 of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) tests, and got your full license, you will need to complete and return the Driver CPC Declaration Form.

You must carry your Driver CPC card while driving a truck or bus professionally.

If you are stopped by an RSA Transport Officer or An Garda Síochána and you do not your Driver CPC card penalties will apply.

Getting your Driver CPC card

Once you’ve completed the Driver CPC Declaration Form, your card will be sent to the address you have provided.

Waiting for your card

You cannot drive professionally until you get your Driver CPC card.

If your card doesn’t arrive

You should get your Driver CPC card within 20 working days of application. If you don’t receive it after this time submit a query to the RSA.

Replace your card

You must replace your Driver CPC card if it’s lost or stolen.

The Driver CPC card doesn’t have your address on it, so you don’t have to get a new one if your address changes.

Staying qualified

Every 5 years you must:

  • attend one 7 hour Driver CPC Training module per year with an RSA approved CPC Training organisation (35 hours over 5 years)
  • attend a total of 42 hours of Driver CPC Training modules if you hold bus and truck Driver CPC and wish to maintain both
