Report an Instructor

What to do if your instructor is unlicensed, or if you witness unlicensed driving instruction in your area.

Your instructor must be qualified

The RSA tests and regulates driving instructors. It is an offence for instructors to give you driving lessons unless they are on our register of approved driving instructors (ADI).

Make sure your instructor is an ADI before you take any lessons. You can check that your instructor is qualified in two ways:

  • Find the instructor on the list of approved instructors
  • Ask to see the instructor’s permit (it must be displayed in the driving school vehicle)

The revenue commissioners are also particularly keen to learn the details of un-licensed driving instructors and you can contact them on a dedicated number - 01 6748949. All reports to this number will be treated in strict confidence - you do not have to give your own contact details.

Report an unlicensed instructor

If your instructor is unlicensed, or if you witness unlicensed driving instruction in your area, please report the matter to your local Garda station or to the RSA at the details below:

ADI Enforcement Officer,
Road Safety Authority,
Moy Valley Business Park, Primrose Hill,
Ballina, Co. Mayo

E-mail: [email protected]
Lo-Call: 1890 50 60 80 or 096 25007

Please include the following details:

  • Name of instructor
  • Make of vehicle
  • Vehicle registration
  • Location
  • Date witnessed
  • Time witnessed

Please note that it is best not to approach someone you suspect of giving unlicensed driving instruction - you should note the details above and report it to us or the Gardai.
